Listening, rewinding, writing, and repeat
Jazz Transcriptions
One of the most direct ways to learn the language of jazz piano is to play it yourself. That means listening closely, rewinding endlessly, and writing things down note by note.
During my studies I spent countless hours transcribing solos by Oscar Peterson, Wynton Kelly, Paul Desmond, Roy Hargrove, Karel Boehlee and others. I’m sharing a selection here, together with short listening notes: what drew me to the solo, what I learned from it, and where the real work starts when you try to play it.
If you’d like to study one of these transcriptions, drop me a line or subscribe below and tell me which one you’re after.
